Flooding

How does Eco2 intend to address flooding/drainage/rainwater runoff?

We have developed entirely new proposals which deal specifically with any potential for flooding caused by development of the Brigg REP site.

Currently, the site is occupied by a few buildings and large areas of hardstanding. There is inadequate drainage and rainfall on the site currently prevent cannot soak naturally away. In a storm, large volumes of rainwater flow from the site into Scawby Beck. The beck has been known to back up and flood the local area.

We will solve this problem by excavating a lagoon that will store all of the rain that would fall during a 1 in a 100 year storm event. This water would then be pumped into Scawby Beck at a restricted rate, and only at times when the beck is able to take the flow. There will be no more uncontrolled run off, which is a significant improvement on the current situation.

We have also had to consider the flood plain. In a flooding incident, the lower-lying parts of the site would be inundated; the higher land would remain dry.

We have needed to raise the north eastern part of the site out of the flood plain to protect buildings and equipment. But the flood waters that would have settled in this part of the site must go somewhere - and that cannot be the surrounding areas.

We will resolve this by excavating parts of the site that currently sit above the flood plain to compensate for the land raised elsewhere. Taken as a whole, the site will hold 6,000 cubic metres of water more than it does now. While this does not solve the wider issues here in Brigg, it is certainly a significant improvement on the current situation.
